Impoliteness on Twitter by Malaysians

This study investigates impoliteness on Twitter in the context of Malaysian users. The objectives are to examine strategies and triggers found tweet replies tweets issues related COVID-19. data consist 440 COVID-19, posted from May 2020 2021 which contain elements impoliteness. uses Culpeper’s (2005) model (2011) framework for examining triggers. is motivated by dearth studies focusing findings show that four types used replies: bald-on record impoliteness, positive negative sarcasm or mock most dominant type strategy while least employed strategy. Pointed criticism be often occurring trigger study, followed insult, expressive, challenging unpalatable question and/or presupposition. suggest culture communication platform may play a role use tweets.
